Understanding Prefabrication And How It Works

Prefabrication is the manufacturing of building components at an off site facility then transferring those components to a job site for final completion. It is also known by the term-modular construction. Structures can be prefabricated by building components or whole buildings off site then transporting them to the job site for final assembly. How does it work?

PREFAB FACILITIES

Prefabrication manufacturers such as Schrock Prefab construct steel frames, walls panels, roof panels, and so much more through an assembly line process. These components are made in a controlled environment, through a strict, quality controlled, and standardized sequence.

TRANSPORTATION

The completed components or whole buildings are transported to the job site where they are assembled together by a construction crew. This requires strategic planning as the transporter must prepare a safe travel route, a delivery sequence, and a site survey must be approved to accept the unit or components. This assures the modular structure or components will remain safe and stable.

ON-SITE

Once the components are on the job site, the crew will assemble each component, or finalize the structure to completion. They will connect each prefabricated piece and follow the state’s building codes just like conventional construction. When the structure is completed, the building will be inspected prior to initial use.
